For my Life on Earth body paint series I created 3 designs for different biomes of our planet earth.
The inspiration is being constantly drawn to and influenced by nature.
Below are some notes that I recorded during the creating of these pieces:
In this rapidly increasing technological society, it is so important to remind ourselves beauty of the planet that we live on, and how important it is to appreciate and protect her.
It can be challenging to know what we can trust and what is real going on in the world, but Mother Nature is a constant and she is grounding. We must show her love and care🌱❤️
I decided to start with marine life in collaboration with Coloured Contacts for a Summer look.
An interesting synchronicity with this look is that I took a drawing class with a theme of octopus on the same day of doing this body paint. That ended up influencing and changing my design to have an octopus as the focus on the face.
“Rainforests only cover 6% of the Earth’s surface, yet account for more than half of the world’s plant and animal species. A 4-square-mile patch can contain as many as 1,500 flowering plants, 750 species of trees, 400 species of birds, and 150 species of butterflies. The Amazon rainforest itself is home to around 40,000 plant species, nearly 1,300 bird species, 3,000 types of fish, 427 species of mammals, and 2.5 million different insects.” - whatsthedif.org
People often think of the desert as dry, lifeless and lacking lots of color. I can confirm it is quite dry (it’s a dry heat if you haven’t heard lol), but there is more color and life than it’s given credit for. I will acknowledge that the Sonoran Desert which surrounds me is one of the most colorful deserts in the world, so my reference may be different than most.
All of this to say the vibrant and sometimes blinding blue skies, sunsets ranging from soft pastels to vibrant hues that bounce off of the clouds, magical wildflowers and surprising amount of greenery make up the desert area near me. I wanted to capture that in this painting for the final look in this Life on Earth series.
This is my completed Life on Earth series. I am proud to have had this idea and vision and have been able to bring it to life in a way that I believe represents me as an artist and a person.
Art is extremely important to me. Creativity flows through me from my deepest roots to how I view the world every day.
Nature and our earth, our home are a constant inspiration to me.
The ability and opportunity to share my gift is a great blessing.
